Gravesham Borough Council covers an area with a population of around 93,000 people in the busiest part of North West Kent.

Gravesham Borough Council has 44 elected councilors, with the borough divided into 19 areas called wards. Between one and three councilors represent each ward.

The council is also constantly checking on working and living conditions, providing leisure, sport and entertainment for all ages, overseeing roads in the area, protecting the environment and promoting economic progress for the future.

The council has a vision for Gravesham of increased opportunities and an improvement in the quality of life for everyone.

 

Gravesham has excellent road communications with London, Gatwick, the Channel Ports, East Anglia and the North via the A2 and the Dartford Tunnel.

On the M25 take junction 2 (A2) towards Canterbury. From the A2 take the A227 turn off and head towards Gravesend. The A227 (Wrotham Road) takes you directly into the Town Centre, and past the Civic Centre and Woodville Halls Theatre.
Gravesend, Northfleet and Higham from Charing Cross; Meopham and Sole Street from Victoria. There are good services to the Medway Towns and the Kent Coast. There is also a half hourly ferry from Gravesend to Tilbury Riverside, from where there are rail links to East London, the City and Southend.

There are several parks located throughout the borough, all of which are ideal for picnics, family walks and relaxation. There are also a variety of smaller green spaces offering recreational opportunities for the local community.

 

Just five miles away from Gravesend town centre, the largest shopping centre in Europe – Bluewater , has opened. Containing more than 320 stores in three malls, and leisure areas for rest and relaxation, Bluewater offers a choice of shopping and dining that is unrivalled outside central London. Surrounding the shopping malls are seven lakes and woodland, tree-lined avenues, formal gardens and water gardens. Visitors can also make use of Bluewater’s cycle paths, boating lake and picnic areas.

Bluewater is easily accessible from Gravesend by bus, train or car, making Gravesend ideally situated as a base from which to visit Bluewater, whilst offering the atmosphere and experience of a traditional English town centre full of history and heritage that has a unique position on the River Thames.
